Gozo’s tiny size is a blessing in disguise as everywhere is within a few minutes reach! This might contribute to one of the many reasons Gozo is a unique destination that can be enjoyed ….

At Farmhouse Cala we are proud that from our location perched on the hilltop village of Qala, we have at least 4 incredible beaches literally on our doorstep.   

Naturally there are a great many other beaches along the coast of Gozo!

Starting from Hondoq Bay which is literally down the slope of our farmhouse and is one of the popular tourist zones of the island.

Hondoq Bay, also known as Hondoq ir-Rummien Bay, is a picturesque bay that is ideal for beach lovers and adventure seekers alike. Just a short distance from the centre of the village of Qala, this small bay offers an array of activities and amenities, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed seaside getaway. Hondoq Bay boasts crystal-clear waters that are perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and diving. The bay's Blue Flag status, awarded for its exceptional cleanliness and excellent water quality, ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors. The beach features a mix of sand and pebbles, providing both shallow areas suitable for families and deeper waters for more adventurous swimmers and divers.Visitors to Hondoq Bay can engage in various water sports, including jet skiing, kayaking, waterskiing, and paddleboarding. Boat and kayak rentals are readily available, allowing you to explore the surrounding coastline and even make a short trip to the nearby island of Comino, known for its stunning Blue Lagoon. For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, Hondoq Bay is an excellent spot for sunbathing and enjoying the scenic views. The bay also offers unique opportunities for cliff jumping and exploring hidden inlets, such as Ta’ Bemberin Bay. Those who love a good hike will appreciate the scenic coastal walk from Hondoq Bay to Mgarr Harbour, offering breathtaking views of Comino and the Mediterranean Sea. The bay's east-facing position makes it one of the best spots on Gozo to witness spectacular sunrises. Hondoq Bay is well-equipped with amenities including sunbed rentals, adventure sports, showers and sanitary facilities, and kiosks. The Hondoq kiosks are popular for grabbing a bite, with local delicacies like the tuna ftira being highly recommended. For a more budget-friendly option, visitors can also pack a picnic from local shops in Gozo.

Hondoq Bay is easily accessible by public transport, with bus number 303 stopping nearby at Kuncizzjoni. The beach is a short 15-minute walk from the bus stop. Alternatively, visitors can reach the bay by car, with ample parking available near the beach, or by taxi services operating throughout Gozo.Whether you are looking for a day of adventure, a relaxing swim, or simply to soak in the natural beauty of Gozo, Hondoq Bay offers a perfect blend of activities and tranquility for all visitors.

Marsalforn Bay is originally a fishing village, the beach offers a sandy shore and rocky areas from which to swim off and enjoy snorkelling. Marsalforn is also a great place to spend the evening amid the bars and restaurants along the promenade.

Next on the line is Ramla l-Ħamra bay. The unique red sandy bay is a favourite because of the wide expanse of red sand. The beach, which is also a Natura 2000 site, is also famous because legend has it that the cave on top of Ramla was the abode of the nymph Calypso.   Between Ramla l-Ħamra and Marsalforn, there is also one hidden beach – Għajn Barrani, a site that is completely unspoilt. This beach is completely off the beaten track but well worth the visit.

Yet another picturesque beach is San Blas, a beautiful cove which one can reach through Nadur.  The road to San Blas is a steep one and this makes San Blas a more peaceful spot.
